We’re officially six months into 2023 and June sure was a quick one for me but I will not dawdle on how the time flies by even though I think it might be a significant rite of passage when it comes to being an adult: complaining about the weather and how fast time goes by. Alas, it’s time for The Monthly Note and the June Note is a juicy one, to give you a heads up!
We talk about my latest Iced Matcha obsession (only me?), my deep gratitude for Ted Lasso (definitely not only me!), the hand salves I always have to have on hand (pun intended), and Lynn Mumbing Mejia, an online creator I admire for her kindness, quirkiness, and her recipes that always make me happy!
The June Note
My love for coffee is no secret, it’s abundant and opinionated and ever-growing and so is my coffee hiatus from time to time. Right now I seem to be going through one of those and in its place I enjoy my daily Iced Matcha Latte. Just like with poaching eggs, it seemingly took me forever to perfect the way I make it at home – it’s all about the correct ratio and it’s only one step from basically pastel green milk to this tastes too healthy not to be a shot of cough syrup.
My trick is to ditch the bamboo whisks and spoons (if you can call that stick one) that usually come in matcha home kits, and just rely on the good old teaspoon and either blend/shake it or use an electric mini whisk like I do. Total game changer!
If you prefer a step-by-step recipe, I got you covered. Try this Iced Matcha Soy Latte by The Little Epicurean. Maryanne uses soy milk as I do and also some homemade honey syrup which I don’t use but might be nice to have on hand.
One thing that goes great with an iced beverage is a good book. I will share my latest brain candy reads next week, but want to talk about a show that has an ongoing lasting impression on me. I usually start watching shows when they are already wrapped, I am not a fan of waiting for weekly episodes. That kind of anticipation and my anxiety don’t mesh well.
A few weeks ago I decided to give Ted Lasso a shot. I knew of it but since I am not into soccer/football, I wrongly decided it’s not a show for me and all the articles trying to tell me it is really not, couldn’t convince me otherwise. That is until a few weeks ago, I decided to give it a shot and was hooked right away. I quickly binged the three seasons and all the characters, Ted’s unique way of coaching, the banter, and the funny pop-culture references are still with me. So much so, that since I wouldn’t stop talking about it my boyfriend was intrigued to watch it with me, and now, one season in, he gets the fuss I was making about the very idea that is Ted Lasso.
I am happy it launched during the pandemic and hope it helped many to feel less alone during those trying times, I also feel a little miffed I didn’t hop on the Ted Lasso bandwagon sooner, but better late than never or so they say!
My love for hand cream is well-known, in that summer heat lately, I just can’t be bothered and my cuticles do not thank me for it. Cue to Burt’s Bees Res-Q Ointment and Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream hand salves which are perfect little helpers in a small tin without any greasy residue feeling. The Res-Q Ointment even helped with my little cooking accident that burnt my hand and is known to work wonders on irritations of any kind concerning your skin.
Last but not least, let me introduce you to my favorite creator as of late. A happy food recipe enthusiast, genius DIYer and blogger extraordinaire also known as Lynn Mumbing Meija. She’s a Canadian blogger known for her fun Halloween costume ideas you can easily DIY, home decor projects and easy recipes you want to try immediately. I met Lynn on Twitter of all places and we quickly connected on all things creating and blogging. Her Pineapple Pico de Gallo recipe has a chokehold on me, I had it three times already and don’t see myself stopping anytime soon, it’s the perfect summer staple and so easy to whip up!
That’s a wrap for June from yours truly, let’s see what July has in store for us, shall we?!
Happy Sunday!
