This year has been a really good reading year so far. I have read a few decent books, that I would also recommend to others, but when it comes to favorite books in 2022, these four, in particular, stand out to me. If you haven’t read them yet, I envy you to get to read them for the very first time. It’s such a special experience falling in love with a book, not wanting it to end, only to be eager to start reading all over again…
My 4 Favorite Books This year (So Far)
Where The Crawdads Sing
I should not start with my favorite, but I cannot be helped. This book! I fell in love with Kya and her story, the way she struggled and persevered against all odds. I had it on my TBR pile for a while but when I heard it was to become a movie and Taylor Swift was contributing the song, I knew I had to read it right away. I can’t watch the movie first.
The only thing I regret is not reading it sooner. Wildlife maven Delia Owens published her debut novel at the age of 69 – I love her story. So if you happen to love good storytelling, time jumps, and intricate nature details plus a strong-willed heroine, you will love Kya and Where The Crawdads Sing. It’s definitely one of my favorite books this year, if not THE favorite book!
The Midnight Library
The first book I read this year and one that especially revokes that first-time-reader-envy is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. This book revolves around Nora who gets the chance to see where different life choices would have led her in said midnight library.
I loved the premise, Nora’s quandary, and the realizations she makes throughout the story. I think it is a perfect book to read when you have a shitty day since it’s all about perspective and the fact that some things need to be earned instead of given to you.
Nora’s story stuck with me long after I finished reading it. The beginning was a bit confusing to me, but it’s one to get quickly into that has a forever place in my favorite books.
The Name Of The Wind
I was never a huge fan of the fantasy genre. That being said, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss made me a convert. My boyfriend actually recommended it to me and it took me a bit to warm up to it, I am not going to lie.
The beginning was very confusing to me, but as the story progresses and you get to learn more about Kvothe, the book’s protagonist, you don’t want to put it down. It’s easily one of my favorite books this year!
It’s such an intricate story about loss and hardship and success, the characters are crafted as diverse as they come. I just started the second book of the trilogy – A Wise Man’s Fear. Hardcore fans are still awaiting the third and last book from Rothfuss that has yet to be released.
If you like the fantasy genre and intricately woven storytelling, this one is definitely for you.
Malibu Rising
Frankly, I have yet to find a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid that I don’t like. I loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones & The Six and her short story Evidence of the Affair, but Malibu Rising just hit differently.
This book revolves around the Riva siblings and how they cope after their father left, practically orphaned, and how the oldest sibling Nina steps up to take care of the family.
Maybe it stuck with me because I am the oldest sibling as well and know a thing or two about having to be the grown-up at an early age, maybe it’s because Nina and I are very much alike in our mindset (later in the book is a paragraph about being capable that I could very much relate to).
This book is for you if you like the ’90s, that so-called California dream, surfing, a bond between siblings, and a peak into Hollywood at that time.

I read so many good books this year. But my no.1 favorite has to be Dheo’s by Anjell. Btw, I read Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens last year. It was an awesome read. I have Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library on my shelf and will read it soon.

Thank you for sharing some of your favourite books. I’ve got few a books that I’m working my way through. I’ve almost finished reading Dream Small by Seth Lewis, which I’ve really been enjoying.
